1 out of 5 stars Broken after 2 weeks   September 4, 2010

The ads for this product swore it would wake up anyone. My child sleeps like the dead. We put the vibrator thing in her pillow because she could not feel it under the mattress. The vibration woke her but the alarm (set to the loudest setting) did not. It does not keep her awake. She just falls back asleep. The biggest problem...after only 2 weeks, the thing is gaining 15 minutes an hour so we can't use it anyway. I have to figure out how to return it.

5 out of 5 stars Never late for class. Ever   August 26, 2010

First semester I had class at 8:30am 4 days a week, which meant getting up at 7:30. My roommate didn't get up until 11 or so. Had it set to vibrate only and it worked fantastically.

I put the bed-shaker under my pillow (no box spring on college beds), and it is powerful! Woke me up on time every day, and my roommate got to sleep undisturbed.

Another useful feature is the "alarm off" function, which turns off the alarm for the day, but still leaves it armed for the next day, so I never have to worry about forgetting to set it before I go to bed.

The only downside is that it has a large power brick. If you don't have it plugged directly into the wall, plan to put it on the end of a powerstrip or invest in a liberator to make it work.

5 out of 5 stars No more sleeping through class   August 19, 2010

I don't have any hearing disabilities, but I AM a heavy sleeper, and before I got this I could easily sleep through fairly loud alarms.

Not anymore. I've had this for 6 months and I haven't slept through it ONCE. Of course, at 107 decibels (volume adjustable), it's loud, but if you don't want to wake the neighbors the vibration disk (under your pillow) is FANTASTIC. I will warn you, it WILL scare you for the first couple of days, but you quickly adjust. Not only that, but it flashes yellow lights when the alarm goes off! Only a video will do it justice- google "Sonic Bomb" and you'll find some good examples.

I haven't had any issues with build quality, alarms not going off (it's a hard switch, not soft- so it's easy to see), etc.

Minor cons: Wish it was atomic (self setting with time), must make sure that switch is in the right position (if you put it on the 12h 50hz switch and you're running on 60hz US power, you're going to be several minutes off within 24 hours), somewhat bright screen, even when the switch is in the "low" position. No timeout on alarm (make sure you disable the alarm is off when you leave your room for more than a day, or you're going to get your neighbors busting down your door to turn it out)

Fantastic alarm, highly recommended for any heavy sleeper. It's well priced and I can't thank Sonic Alert enough for making it.
